Jennifer's Hope's vision is to prevent teen dating violence instead of simply addressing it after it has already happened. We want to prevent the fire, not only put it out once it is lit.
We are focused on collaborating with agencies who are creating sustainable programs in schools and organizations so that heathy relationships are taught to young people early and often. We believe it is equally important to help both the victim and abuser in order to address and prevent dating abuse.
Our goals include continued training for professionals, parents, and especially teen advocates. Teen advocates are passionate and on the 'front lines' of this issue. Many teens who were previously abused feel incredibly empowered when asked to advocate. There is healing through advocacy.
Jennifer wasn’t considered an “at risk” youth and she had separated from her verbally abusive boyfriend. But the truth is, all teens are at risk for dating violence. It can lead to greater risk in other areas such as depression, difficulty in school, substance abuse, eating disorders, thoughts of suicide, risky sexual behavior, further domestic violence and criminal behavior.
